Did you know that in 2005, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sold 13.5 million copies, more than any other book in America? (In fact, more than the top 13 bestsellers put together. The Broker by John Grisham sold 1.8 million, and The Da Vinci Code, published in 2003, still sold over 1.5 million copies in 2005.)
So I’m cataloging the Ireland Law Reform Commission’s “Report on Nullity of Marriage.” This has to be one of the most fun, brainy twisty passages I’ve seen in a long time, especially if you try to figure it all out. Plus, I guess it’s nice that it’s explicitly stated that you can’t intermarry, but it’s disturbing that anyone would want to marry a relative, especially the ones listed.
